The Boontown Bonfire started one cold
winter for the many snowmobilers that were in desperate need of a place to warm up. Dave Sr. started building a little bonfire near the store for them to warm up to. He soon acquired the 32 acres of pines behind the store and put in a larger, more permanent fire pit. Popularity of the Boontown bonfire grew quickly and it has been a destination of thousands of snowmobilers ever since.
As soon as we have rideable snow, we will carry-on the tradition of the weekend bonfire. The fire is built in a 6 foot fire ring nestled in a grove of pine trees about 100 yards behind the Boon Store. It is on the leg off Trail #5 which comes right to our back door. We light the fire on Friday and continue to add wood until Sunday. If you stop by and the fire is low, we ask that you please add a couple of logs to help keep it going for others to enjoy.
The wood for the bonfire is provided by a few donations and many hours of work through the summer by Cadillac Winter Promotions volunteers. If you would be interested in donating wood or volunteering some of your time, please e-mail Sherry at: sw@boontownusa.com
We also receive many inquiries as to the old brick building next to the bonfire. The building is actually the remains of an old slaughterhouse. It was used years ago to provide the meat that was sold in the Boon Store at the time. Thanks to the generosity of some great folks, we now have a roof over the building as a memorial tribute to George Moore, an old friend of ours.
